Conference on Hyperbolic Conservation Laws and Continuum Mechanics
May 12-14, 2011
In Honor of Constantine Dafermos’ 70th Birthday
SCOPE OF THE CONFERENCE
Continuum mechanics is a scientific area with well developed mathematical theory, and important applications to engineering. The theory of hyperbolic conservation laws has been developed in conjunction with applications to gas dynamics, magneto-hydrodynamics, nonlinear elasticity and traffic theory. In recent years we have witnessed the exploration of new connections with subjects such as the kinetic theory of gases, plasma physics, the mathematical theory of semiconductors and general relativity.
ARRANGEMENTS OF THE MEETING
The conference duration is three days and is scheduled for May 12-14, 2011. It will be held in the School of Engineering, Barus & Holley, Room 190 on the Brown campus.
The Organizing Committee consists of Y. Guo (Brown), G. Menon (Brown), W. A. Strauss (Brown), A.E. Tzavaras (Maryland and U. of Crete).
For more information and possible financial support for young researchers please include a letter of recommendation and contact Madeline Brewster, Madeline_Brewster@brown.edu.
