Abstract:
We study the streamline diffusion method for convection-diffusion problems in one dimension on arbitrary meshes. We prove a best approxima- tion result on arbitrary meshes. We use the best approximation result to prove optimal pointwise error estimates for high-order polynomial approximations on Shishkin and Bakhvalov type meshes.
